As a part of its ongoing efforts to promote heritage education and cultural awareness, Manjusha Antique Museum of Dharmasthala organised a special coin exhibition from February 17 to March 1 2025 . This carefully curated event offered a rare opportunity for visitors to explore the evolution of Indian coinage and connect with the rich history, culture, and economy of the Indian subcontinent.
The exhibition was uniquely significant, as it featured the personal collection of M.L. Ashok Mudigere, a passionate numismatist and a dedicated preserver of Indian history through coins. The collection included a wide array of coins issued by various dynasties, empires, and rulers—ranging from ancient punch-marked coins to the elaborate issues of the Mughal, Vijayanagara, and British eras. Each coin on display was not just a currency of its time, but a symbol of political, economic, and cultural shifts throughout Indian history.
The exhibition also drew a strong educational response, particularly from schools and colleges. Over the two weeks, numerous student groups visited the museum to explore the exhibit, engage in interactive sessions, and ask questions about the stories behind the coins. For many of these students, it was a first-time exposure to numismatics, sparking interest in history, archaeology, and heritage conservation.
